What Brain Health Coaching Looks Like in San Diego (And Why Locals Love It)
By Nancy Ryan, EBHCC | Brain Health
San Diego is full of wellness-minded professionals — but generic nutrition advice won't move the needle on focus, brain fog, or cognitive resilience. Here's what brain-specific coaching looks like locally.
Why San Diego Is Primed for Brain Health Coaching
San Diego is one of the most health-conscious cities in the country — we surf before work, drink green juice at the farmers market, and talk about longevity like it's the weather. But "healthy" in the conventional sense isn't the same as brain-healthy.
You can be in great physical shape, eat a clean diet, and still have brain fog, sugar cravings, poor sleep, and chronic stress eating away at cognitive resilience. Generic nutrition advice doesn't fix that. Brain-specific coaching does.
I'm Nancy Ryan — an Elite Brain Health Coach Certified (EBHCC) through Amen University, based right here in San Diego. Here's what working with a brain health coach locally actually looks like.
Who Works with Me in San Diego
My San Diego clients tend to fall into a few buckets:
If any of that sounds familiar, we probably have something to talk about.
In-Person vs Virtual: Most Clients Mix Both
San Diego County is big — from Carlsbad to Chula Vista, it's a 70-mile spread. So here's how I handle local sessions:
Virtual works surprisingly well for brain health coaching because most of what we do — meal planning, sleep review, supplement guidance, accountability — translates perfectly to video. You also get the same results whether you're in La Jolla or La Mesa.
The Amen University Framework, Applied Locally
San Diego has a unique connection to brain health. Amen Clinics — the original clinic of Dr. Daniel Amen, whose work shaped my entire approach — has a long history on the West Coast. I'm not affiliated with Amen Clinics directly, but I'm certified through Amen University, his training program for coaches.
That means every San Diego client gets:
If you want the full framework comparison — DIY vs certified coaching vs a full Amen Clinics SPECT evaluation — I wrote a comparison guide: Amen Clinics Coaching vs DIY Brain Health.
What a Typical San Diego Client Timeline Looks Like
Here's what most 90-Day Transformation clients experience:
Most clients notice real changes in energy and focus in the first 2–3 weeks. Deeper gut, sleep, and cognitive changes emerge over 6–12 weeks.
Pricing and How to Start
My San Diego pricing is the same as my national pricing:
Coaching is not typically covered by insurance, but HSA/FSA eligibility applies in many cases — I provide receipts.
FAQ I Get from San Diego Residents
"Do I need SPECT imaging from Amen Clinics to work with you?" No. Most clients never get a SPECT scan. I use the Amen brain-type questionnaire and clinical interview to identify your brain type.
"What parts of San Diego County do you serve?" All of it — downtown, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, Poway, Escondido, Chula Vista, and North County. In-person session locations are arranged based on client preference.
"Do you work with clients outside San Diego?" Yes — virtually, nationwide. San Diego just happens to be home.
